Page Rank
Today's date is the 22/1/2007.
As you may or may not know we recently had a Google Page Rank update. Which was both interesting as well as a little disappointing
for me.
The reason that l found it interesting was because it was my first time to see how my web site would be Ranked by Google. Like
most people, l had read many articles on Page rank and how it is suppose to work. The general theme is to get as many inbound links from
topically related web sites as you can and to have the words that you are trying to rank for in the Anchor Text, which is the blue
hyper-text part.
So having this information l set out to get as many links as l could from other Web Site Owners, paying attention to the
hyper-text that l was using, as that is the part that the Search Engines look at to see what your Web Site is about. Also they look at the
words that are on your Web Page for both the words that are being used by you as well as the density of those words, which is called
the On Page Optimization, where as the links cominging into your Web Page from other web Sites is counted as the Off Page Optimization.
Nowadays the Off Page Optimization is suppose to count for up to 70-80% of your Optimization as that is the Weight that Google gives to it
compared to the On Page Optimization factors of word content, word density as well as proximity of the words on your page that have been
used in your links Anchor Text.
That was the Interesting Part.
I had gotten over 800 inbound links pointing at my Homepage so l was hopeful that l would soon be seeing some green when Google
next did it's Page Rank update. I did see some green but not where l was expecting to find it.
As it turned out l received no green for my Homepage, but l did get a Page Rank of 2, for two of my internal pages that had no
inbound links to them at the time, since then l have gotten some inbound links for both of these pages. The part that l have found
interesting is that the two pages that received some Page Rank both only had 3 internal links pointing at them, of which none of the Web
Pages that pointed to them received any Page Rank themselves during the Google Page Rank update, so they remain at 0 PR.
Seeing as l had a lot of Web Pages pointing to me that had Page Rank and the web Pages that they pointed to received no credit for
it, l am thinking that maybe Google is once again looking at the On Page Optimization factors rather than the off page ones.
So to bring this to an end l have left one of the Web Pages intact as far as the content on it is concerned, for you to look at if
you would like to, to see if there was a reason for it to receive a Page Rank of 2 with no inbound links at all. It lives here
http://www.ownwebsitedesign.com/Search_Engine_Optimization.html the other Web Page was my Article Page which has since changed.
Please note that the three internal pages were my Homepage the Search Engine Optimization page as well as the Search Engine
Optimization Continued pages. These 3 pages also pointed to every other Web Page on my Web Site, so l think it is more what was on the page
rather than who was pointing at it, as l had another 15 Web Pages at the time of which, none received any Page Rank and none of them were
in the Sin Bin and all had been Spidered several times by the Google Bot.
If you are chasing Google PR for your Web Site, l hope this helps you, specially if you have experienced a similar
thing.
