Search Engine Optimization & your Web Site?
Is basically refering to making your Web Site easier for others to find!
There are a few ways some one can find your Web Site,
1. They have Your Website Address. Which is called a URL in techy terms, mine for my homepage is http://www.ownwebsitedesign.com/ and is also known as a Hyepr link in the format I have it in, because if you click on it, and it will take you off to the address in the Hypertext, same as a Web Browser.
2. They use the search box at places like Google, and type in a word or phrase to describe what they are looking for, this is called a Search Phrase or Keyword. For example you might type in the word "Web Site" as your search term. The Search Engine, Google in our example, now searches it's index to find all of the pages it has listed in it's index that have the words "Web Site" in them, and lists them in order, the most relevant to your Query being listed first in the Search Results it displays to you. Note as a Default Setting, most Search Engines will Display every page that has either of the words Web or Site on them if you do not put the " quotation marks" around yor querry. Where as if you do put "the quotation marks in", specially with Google, it will only return searches with that exact term and in that exact phrase that you asked for within the quotation marks.
This is to save you spending hours of your time searching through unrelated content, which enables you to do what you went on the internet for in the first place, thus increasing your surfing experience while on the internet.
3. They follow a link from another site or article to your site. A link can be found anwhere on a Web Page, in point 1, l placed a hyper link to my home page, which can be called a text link, as it is found within the body text. Most times a link will be on a links page or in the web sites navigational menu.
4. They come from an ad that has a link to your site in it. Usually you are paying for the ad, ( that's not much fun ) Ok, so why mention all of that stuff, well XsitePro can automate most of it for you, except the external links coming to you, for that we can use a great piece of software that you will fall in love with when you realize what it can do for you and your Website's exposure. more on that when we get to SEO latter on. And the paid ads, well you should not need them, if you are using these two programs, but that is up to you. if you do use any form of Paid advertising, you will want to keep a close eye on your ROIS, or Return On Investment Statistics. Briefly, Search Engines list web sites in indexes, to make looking for things on the internet faster, and enabling the Search Engines to return Web Sites that are more Relevant to what you are looking for. As an example, if we filed our Electricity bill under the letter E, in our filing cabinet, then if we needed to find it again, we only have to look under the letter E and hopefully, we would also have it in a file called Electricity,which would be alphabetically filed in the E section of our filing cabinet. Thankfully we do not need to know how to do all of this, only understand the concept. And then use it to our advantage making it available for anyone to find our site, for free.
A couple of the Search Engines that you may have heard of are Google, MSN and Yahoo. Search Engine Optimization is just a term used to describe the way you display your Web Site to the Search Engines in order to make it easier for them to list and rank your Website, This makes it easier for others to find your Website even if they do not know your URL or Address. And that means a lot more visitors to your site. Also the word we type into the search field is called a KEYWORD by the Search Engines.
So the better Optimised your Web Site the more traffic you GET.
